70%of the time i try to burn dvds it always fails is it because of cheap media? Windows XP 5.1

Sorry, can't find any firmware for your drive at the moment. What I did find is a shit load of people with the same exact problem. No one seems to have figured it out. One thing that was not found or mentioned was the firmware for this burner. Hopefully someone else will reply with some info. Until then I'll keep checking for a possible fix.

I would think this means bad media.

Ritek G04's are good media, or at least were. I've heard many complaints recently about them, apparently they started making lower grade media and labeling them G04. I personally haven't run into problems with them, but that's just me.

Try different media, get some RW discs so you're not making coasters. It's always good to have a few RW's lying around anyway.

And firmware can be updated through Pioneer's website.
