Im also interested in this- Ive just got a new A05 and bought some different brands of DVD-R:
- Pioneer- Came with burner- work a treat
- Datastream: not yet tested
- Melody: not yet tested
- TDK: Not yet tested
Will keep you updated on how these go.
Have any of u guys found aftermarket discs that will burn at 4x? Pioneer seems to be the only one but is pricey at around $5US. The TDK's are like $1.30US

AMD XP2000+, 512DDR, PioneerA05, WinXP/ME DualBoot

Meritline 4X DVD-R Media 4.7GB for General 25 Pack in Cake Box $2.95 Each someone told me this r great for PS2 games and dvdr movies to be played PS2 with no problems.
If someone tested please let me know.
I got my Pioneer DVR105 and came with DVDRW workd great but my PS2 didnt read it. I try a cheap DVD R and skip a lot on dvd movies on my ps2. On my dvd player movies work fine.
The media really matters for baking up PS2 Games?

I bought the Pioneer DVD-105 drive a little while ago. I have tried lots of different brands. Most brands work including the cheap ones.
Stay away from "Universal" media.
It's not even recognized by the drive, the sales guy gives you a run around and there's no exchange.

I've got an A05, and TDK have worked fine for me, as well as the pioneer disc that shipped with the unit. I've ordered 100 princo from allmedia, so I'll let you know how those pan out.

I have used CMC manufactures 1X that did not work well (1 out of 5) but the Pioneer 4X DVD-R and 2X DVD-RW worked no problem. The Sony 1X DVD-RW also worked perfectly. Verbatim 1X DVD-R worked perfectly as well.

I have the Pioneer A105 and upgrated the firmware to v1.2 from their web site.

I alway purchase from
http://www.supermediastore.com/dvdmedia.html

They have almost every 2x, 4X DVD-R and DVD+R Media, love their price. 2.4x DVD+RW only $1.99 each for 100 pack in jewel case
All of them are good for Sony Dru500a

Hi,
I have a pioneer 104 burner, and I use speed : 1x
Arita DVD-R play OK on at least 10 different standalones.(3 different Tokai players, Raite, Panasonic, 2 different Bluesky standalones, Sony etc. They can be found for 1.5 euros in Holland.
Before, I used lead data. They were fine but one Tokai player didn't recognize them.
I had all sorts of problems with Princo : blocks, image freezing ... ( they played well on my computer, though)
Optodisc DVD-R were all right for many players, but not all.
When a standalone accepts DVD-RWs (again,Arita DVD-RWs work fine with me), it tends to have problems accepting some DVD-Rs.
