VCD not reading automatically

I made a VCD following all instructions in the guide and burnt using Nero sorfware. The VCD created did not read in my DVD player. The player does support VCD media. I also have noticed when I try to use it on my computer DVD player it does not read it and start my DVD player automatically, it is not detected. I can see the disc and open files on it manually that were created with Nero. I also went out and purchased another CDR media which was 650MB versus 700 MB and that did not help. What am I doing wrong?

when it comes to your dvd player on your pc, it will not automatically recognize a vcd or svcd only dvd...so, you can't tell with that.. as for you standalone dvd player, vcd should automatically be recognized..what does the dvd player say when you stick the disk in??? disk error?? when you burn with nero, are you using video mode or supervideo mode??

The dvd player just says no disc, it does not see it. The player fully supports VCD's. The supervideomode or videomode is unknown. I don't see the option in Nero. If you are asking SVCD or VCD I created a VCD. SVCD is not an option in the demo mode which I downloaded. Thanks for your reply.

does it play in you dvdrom of your pc...find the file in mpeg folder (should be av001.dat or something of that nature) and double click on that and it should start playing. If it does, then it is your dvd player...

Yes it does play in the dvd player on my pc as you suggested. It also plays automatically from my cd writer which is separate form the DVD. I was thinking there was a problem becuase the DVD drive on my PC would not read it automatically. It seems odd because the documentation with my stand alone DVD player said it supports VCD. Oh well, I guess I am outta luck. Thanks for your help.

before you give up, go to http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php and look up your player and view the comments about your player. Sometimes there are fixes for dvd players.

Have you checked anywhere ( afterdawn or vcdhelp ) to see if your standalone player can play CDR vcds. Have you tried playing a CDR audio cd in it? You may have more luck with CDR-W or silver coloured CDRs.

thanks again, I looked and it appears others have had trouble as well even thought vcd's are supported. Some users found success with cd-rw from special vendors. Now that this was mentioned I tried an audio cd-r and it does not work either. Guess I'll go and pick up some of these other discs. Thank you very much.
