ok I am new to this site, and my first post is to answer a very nagging question in my brain. the DVD's that we buy. What DVD media is used so that it plays universally on all DVD players.

Commercial DVD's are pressed, not burned.
A very thin aluminmum sheet is made to contain the movie data, then is pressed between two pieces of plastic.
Completely different than ANY home movie/dvd burning setup.

Black holes are where God divided by zero...

Most newer players should play both -r and +r format.

I like +r myself because you can change the booktype
to make your disk a dvd-rom that is 99% compatible
with most home systems.

More important than the type of DVD is the media itself.
You want to use quality media.
The Manufacturer Code is the most important,
since most dvd Companies Outsource to different
vendors.

Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
MXLRG01, MXLRG02 = Maxell =
MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R)<-----------------VERBATIM MY CHOICE #1
TAIYOYUDEN or YUDEN = Taiyo Yuden = (-R)<--------------FUJIFILM (made in japan) MY CHOICE #2
TDKG02 = TDK Corp

Here is a website that expalins more.
