Hello all,
I would like to know if there is a way to extract a part of a DVD in an uncompressed format, for example a BMP sequence? I need this to keep the original quality of the DVD but it is not intended to be for a long time sequence.
If someone know how to do this, from either the DVD or the corresponding VOB file, and outputs it in BMP or simple AVI sequence (the tools I have always use a compression method when saving in AVI, which I don't want on this job).
In the same way, does anyone know a tool that can play a DVD/VOB *frame by frame* and do screen captures?
Thanks!

I think what you want is to convert the VOB files into uncompressed RGB. File size will be astronomical, but you will have 0% degradation in quality. As far as screen capturing every frame as an image file....It can be done but the tools i know for doing this have to be operated manually, every frame must be taken by accessing a menu component which to do for, say, 10 mintes of video would be a MAJOR job. If by the off chance you want audio extraction aswell simply Demux AC3 file and you will have flawless sound.

You are right I want to convert VOB into uncompressed RGB (no care about the audio). Of course I know this will produce very large files, and I would do this for a few seconds only. So, what are the tools I can use? I have one that keeps reading frames 4 by 4 so I miss many frames and I can't use it for this job.
What tools do you use?

I would use Macromedia Flash it can handle AVI and Quicktime files and export individual frames as BMP images of any specified quality. With Flash there would be no need to convert to Uncompressed RGB.

It doesn't help me : my source is a VOB file (not AVI) and I do want to have uncompressed BMPs or either an uncompressed AVI (if it can be done).

Just double checked, it will accept mpg and mpeg files. It's a long process but use VirtualDubMod to convert VOB to MPG then import this file in to Flash. This should provide no loss in image quality

That's ok! Thanks Haltron! Indeed I've tried VirtualDubMod and it can do what I want. That's good it can read a VOB file and it can even save it into uncompressed RGB in an AVI file, so I can easily take out BMPs of it, but it is rather the AVI file that I'm satisfied with. I don't feel the need to use Flash in that case.
Thanks again :)
