I have copied tons of DVD's and just now having a little problem. My friend wanted me to copy some of mine for him, which are all pretty much copied. The copy's I just got done doing for myself copied for him perfectly, but the older ones I have won't rip, copy, or shrink. They play perfectly in any player, yet I can't copy the copies. The only difference that might help you is that some of my old media is DVD+R and all I use now is DVD-R. Also, I have a new burner and the ones burned on it are the ones that still will copy. But the others play fine.

Are you using your new burner to rip these copied movies? Does the drive you are ripping with support +R media? Are you able to rip any movies burned onto +R discs? Are there any movies you have on -R discs that won't rip?

What brand media did you use for the copies that now won't recopy? Some of the cheap/poor quality media will degrade in just a few months and in time won't even play. Just another possibility.

Yes the new burner is what I am now using. It supports both...just like my other one. I am not sure if the ones that I can't rip are +R or -R, because I have CD labels on them. The ones that I can rip are -R.
All my current DVDs are on Memorex. Half of them being +R's and the other half -R's. I just got some different brand discs to try out.

I didn't say it in the last post but my guess was your media was Memorex. Not a good choice at present time. They buy media from every company out there and put their name on it. Most of it they buy from companies known for cheap/poor quality media. If you get the bad ones they do exactly what you are having trouble with. Some burn ok but degrade in 6 months to the point they won't even play. Trying to recopy gives you errors as well.

What about the labels? Those could be a problem. I know that most don't use labels because others have had problems with them in the past.

I have always bought the cheapest DVD-R media I can find, usually paying about 32 cents per disc or less, and so far, have never gotten one single bad disc, after backing-up over 500 movies ... I keep them out of direct sunlight, and my oldest discs are about 1.5 years old, no noticeable deterioation so far ... crossing my fingers

the only ones I ever really had a major problem with were khypermedia discs. I got coasters out of every single one I tried, and that was 20. Memorex usually gave me one or two junk ones out of a 25-spindle. Ritek G04's are awesome, gone through about 300 with no problems from poor manufacturing. The last one in each spindle is usually scratched up, and twice the power went out while I was burning, can't do much about that. But yeah, hope your good luck continues.

Khypermedia, Thats the junk that lead me here looking for answers about my coasters. 15 out of 25 coasters. I thought I was doing something wrong. Even had my drive exchanged. Then I became a member here and found out that I was using just about the worst media out there. AHH the good old days.

so I guess the khypermedia was a good thing then in the long run. Sort of a blessing in disguise.

Yea, both the junk media and good old X Copy Express that I paid for was the cause of sign up on here. Like you said it was a good thing in the long run.
