How do I burn over 700mb on a normal VCD?

Hi

I understand that it is possible to burn over 700mb on a normal CDR for VCDs and I have 2 questions:

How do I do this?

Do I need special software?

You can burn slighty more than 700MB on a 700MB cd, Prehaps 704MB it depends on the actual disc no two are the same.

Anyway you do not need any special software Nero will do the job as long as your writer supports over burning.

Anyway if you have Nero go to first choose the RECORDER>CHOOSE RECORDER then click on your writer and it will tell you if your writer can over burn.

If it does then goto FILE>PREFERENCES>EXPERT FEATURES tick the "Enable disc at once over burning" and i would personally over burn to 80 minutes to get the max capacity

Thanks for the prompt reply, although this is not the answer im looking for.

When I have googled this I have found websites stating that it is possible to burn up 785Mb on a 700Mb cd.

It states that normal burning of a cd only uses 87% of the disc and its possible for to burn upto 99% disc thus allowing it to burn 785Mb or there abouts.

I would like to know how this is done.

The correctly calculation is:
- a "650 MB disc" (74 min) is, in truth, a "330,000 sectors disc". On a sector you can burn 2048 bytes of (cooked) data, 2336 bytes of movies data and 2352 bytes of audio of RAW data. The remaining bytes are occupied by ECC (Error Correction Codes) and EDC (Error Detection Codes), which are not used for audio and RAW data (and therefore burning RAW DAO is the only way to make a 1:1 backup copy of a procected CD). This means that you can burn 675,840,000 bytes of data, and therefore it is a 650 MB disc, but in reality can contain 2336*330,000 = 770,880,000 MB movies.
- a '700 MB disc' (80 min) is tha same stuff, but you can burn 360,000 sectors. This means that on a '700 MB disc' you can burn more or less 840,960,000 bytes of movies.
Of course ite exact number depends by the 'authoring' application you use to put a MPG into a VCD. More or less you can calculate that an image will be about 10,6 MB greater than the orininal movie, and this must be compared to 2352*360,000 bytes (846,720,000 bytes) , for a "80' CD-ROM" and this fact makes you calculate that on a "80' CD" you can fit about 80' of VCD movie. Otherwise, since a minute of uncompressed .WAV file is about 10.1 MB, how could it be "700 MB = 80' CD" ?

If your burner allows 'overburning' you can 'steal' about other 20 MB of room from the disc. But the discourse just made speaks of normal burning.
