Problem with recording on JVC GR-DVL25A

Hi folks, I'm new to all this, and to your forums, I'm very interested in Video photography and am hoping to learn a lot, and maybe be able to guide some of you as well. My expertese is with computers and such. I run my own Computer sale and repair company as well as making websites for people, so hopefully i will be able to help.

Anyway on with my question,

My father has handed me down his JVC GR-DVL25A Camcorder. unfortunatly he had lost the manual, but i was able to download this ok from JVC website. Unfortunalty, it doesnt seem to want to record anything. I insert a tape 'write enabled', put the camera into [A] mode for automatic, and press the red button to record.... record for a few moments, the tape winds along happily, and screen indicates its recording all as it should. I press stop. all still appears good ... they i switch the camera into [p] mode for playback, rewind the tape, and press play ...... and i get nothing!, not a sausage, just a blank blue screen on the LCD, or black screen through the viewfinder, with a little '►' smybol to indicate its playing, again I can hear the tape winding. So allthough everything appears to be in order, it seems to have not recorded anything... Any help would be greatly appreciated.
