Did you fomat the HD in your PS2 already? You need to do that first.
EDIT: Sorry, misread. Make sure that it's set as the master drive in the PS2 and Slave drive on the PC (Set Jumper on Back) and make sure that none of the pins are broken or bent.

I use an external firewire enclosure for my drive and no need to switch jumpers or open the pc. Takes about 5 seconds to put the drive in.

You need to make sure your HD in your PS2 is set to master or cable select. Once you put it into your PC, something screwy happens. Set it to master/cable select and you will be fine.

Are you certain that you HDD is attached firmly to your adapter, and the screws are tightened correctly?
When I first started using my adapter and HDA in the PS2, I was using an old 40GB HDD that I had. I would frequently get an error msg. that no HDD was found.
After a couple of tray ejects and restarts it would see the drive.
since putting the new HDD in it boots right up.

I even posted your problem in a couple of PC groups and did not get any reply.
How old is the NA? Possibly you damaged the pins in that somehow putting a HDD in.
You could purchase a new one check it out to see if the HDD works in that, and make sure you can return it.
Did the NA ever work?
Does the NA fit firmly in the back of the PS2?

My PS2 wouldn't find my HDD too, I just installed the software that came with the NA and reformatted the drive then it has worked fine ever since.

I am having a similar problem. I also used WinHIIP (version 1.6.6). I hooked the hardrive I wanted to mod up to my computer as a slave and ran WinHIIP (you can download it here: http://forums.psxforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=22748). I followed the program's instructions (selected the drive, erased it, then "PS2 Format"-ted it. I hooked it up to my PS2 as a master then as cable select but neither worked. I did NOT format the harddrive (through the PC) before running WinHIIP. I also did NOT use WinHIIP to load the game image on the HD. I tried using the game, itself because It's HDD supportive.
I'm using a Western Digital (WD Caviar) 40GB (technically about 37.5GB) WD400BB enhanced IDE hard drive. According to the PS2 Hard Drive campatability chart (http://ps2drives.x-pec.com/) as long as you can get the hd to fit with the network adaptor (I had to mod my network adaptor slightly in order to do this) it can work with the PS2. However, the people who said it did work were using HDLoader or HDAdvance.
I can hear the harddrive turn on when I turn on my PS2. I can still connect to multiplayer games through the adaptor, though I still can't use the HD.
I want to use WinHIIP because it's free and I'm a total cheap-ass. Has anyone got any experience with successfully using it?
I want an HD in my PS2 because I just had this 40GB HD lying around and I want to reduce the load times on Resident Evil: Outbreak. And, I've never really modded before and I want to see if I can do it. Though the game does have a DNAS check I *DO* own an original copy of the game and it *IS* HDD supportive (I've read that it can reduce load times by 60%). But when I go to the game's main menu the "HDD Install" option isn't there.
Any ideas? Thanks a lot.
Jeremy
PS YamE, in order to get the most help as you can from this forum can I make a suggestion? Proof read your posts before you submit them. I can just barely understand what you're saying.

You are correct Dave did post your drive as compatible.
I was only suggesting that this could be the problem.
I do not know how to solve a return of your HDD
May I suggest some time with google and try to find out the difference in interfaces, and see if it matters in the PS2

I've searched Google high and low and only found a few programs. Most of them are just patches for HDLoader. The two complete programs I've found are WinHIIP and BootAdvance 1.0, but that runs off the memory card.
How do you get a program from your PC onto the memory card?
Jeremy

GoodAsh03,
In order for you to d/l games to your HD, you need one of the following:
1. HD Advance
2. HD Loader
3. HD Loader memory card exploit
Unless you have the official Sony 40gb HDD, your PS2 WON'T recognize your HD. If you wanna download SOCOM maps, other content from game servers, you need the official HDD. If you wanna download game saves off your PS2 mem cards to save space, you need to get the official Sony HDD. With all that said, you can be cheap and just get the instructions on how to do a memory card exploit. I myself bought HD Advance 2.0 and I am totally satisfied. I have heard about memory card exploits getting corrupted, and you still have to use a boot cd anyhow. It's only $30 ... unless you are just a total pirate ... buy it. It's well worth the price.
Anyhow ... once you get that going, you may have to reformat your HD to get it to work ... you may not.
WinHIIP and PS2Handiness work fine for ripping games a lot faster than the PS2 drive. But ...it's a hassle putting the HD back into the PS2 and PC ... and vice versa.
Hope that helps. My recommendation (and I have two HDs, including the Sony, to back up my info) is ... buy the program. If you legally own the games, why not pay to back them up?

what's your HD's capacity? I would recommend throwing it into your PC or flipping it on ebay and using that cash to buy a new HD. I was gonna put my HD into my PC if it wasn't compatible with my PS2.

I would flip tha 200gb on ebay and then use that money to get a compatible HD. You can get good money off ebay.
