Hello Burners,
This is my first attempt at using InCD & CD-RW discs.
I am unable to format any CD-RW disc MRW.
InCD gives error:
"Unable to quick/normal format this disc."
"This disc is not a UDF disc. Please format this disk completely"
The option to full format is grayed out / not available.

The disks are supplied by Lite-On, and unused. I tried three disks.
I also tried some new Memorex 4X-12X, without joy.
I have upgraded both Nero & InCD to the latest.
The burner is Lite-On 48246S SS06, as single drive on IDE3 of Abit KT7A-raid, with 512mb PC133. OS is Win XP Pro (no SP1).

There is no other Burning software installed.

I have downloaded the firmware upgrade but not installed it. Installed firmware is SS06.
Other than this format problem, this drive performs properly, and I have burned a dozen or so on it.

If XP is the problem re the format, I can install W98, & dual boot.
I also have an unused 48246S on hand, which can be swapped for the installed one.

I am climbing Mt Rainier, and am stuck. Can you throw me a rope?

Problem solved!
This, or another burner, has resided on IDE3 (raid channel) forever, and operated perfectly there using CDR media.
Further investigation revealed a recently installed "ghost " SCSI CD-ROM device. Ghostly apparition occurred only after playing with CD-RWs.
I went into "safe mode" & removed all optical drives shown in Device Manager.
I then rearranged drive cable configuration, moving the burner onto IDE2.
Mt Rainier has been conquered.
I can see Seattle from up here!!!

Nice to hear you found a resolution.

Now if only all other posts could be as informative and thorough as your original one then people can try to help out better.

I don't think that anybody would have guessed the answer though. Nice work LesDigits.

Thanks folks!
I had read a while back that raid & optical drives don?t get along too well, so that was the obvious path to investigate.

Getting away from the problem & composing the post allowed the frustration to ebb, & reasoning to proceed.
