Cannot Play New Xbox Games

I have a xbox with a matrix modchip and 120gb seagate hdd - xecuter 4983 bios. Until recently I haven't had problems backing up games to my hdd. Now when I put an orig. game in - i get a disc dirty or damaged error. When I FTP to the xbox, sometimes it shows nothing in the dvd drive, when i do see the disc there, it will never fully rip to the computer. PLEASE HELP!!
NOTE: Tried with FlashFXP, craxtion 4.0, and IE
