What causes "hiccups" to occur after playing a burned DVD?

I am using Sony 8X DVD's.
DVD Shrink/AnyDVD/Nero are the apps that I am using.

SOme of the DVD's pause for a few seconds then skip over several seconds of the movie and then resume playing. What would casue this?

ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe, AMD 4200 X2, ATI All-In Wonder X1900, Corsair 2GB PC6400, Seagate 80 gig SATA, Maxtor 200 gig SATA, WD 200 gig PATA.

Sounds like a media problem, but sony's normally are pretty good.
Are you using stick on labels?

Sometimes the burn rate being too high will cause this. What was your burn speed? Most people here recommend 4X.

I would normally suspect the media, but Sonys are pretty decent. It could be your DVD player, so try playing the DVD on your PC or a friend's DVD player. If the skipping still occurs, I'd try burning at a slower speed - maybe 4X. Always rip the DVD to your hard drive first, and then burn from there. And make sure you turn off programs like screensavers, anti-virus apps, and don't run any other programs while burning (if you surf the internet while burning, maybe you should just wait the 13 minutes).

I never burn any faster than 4x myself, but alot of people in here do and with success.

As long as your using good media, that shouldnt be the problem.Unless you use hacked firmware, and burning faster, than the speed rated on the disc.(not my words, but words ive read from others on here about burning faster)

I have a pioneer burner that will burn at 16x, but Ive never had her over 4x.

Whats the media I.D. on those sonys?

No sticker on the Sony.

I am burning at 8X. I will try to slow to 4X.

I do have diskkeeper running in the back ground.

I tried checking the media id on the Sony disk and Nero won't list the id.
