Messiah 2 booting problems

My messiah 2 chip has worked for ages and now, all of a sudden, my ps2 no longer works whilst the chip is activated, i just get a black screen, no intro or anything.

I can still boot original games if i turn the chip off, but with it on i cant even enter browser or anything!

can anybody make any suggestions?
do i need a new ps2?
