Thank goodness I found this forum! I am having a problem with my HP DVD 400C drive not reading DVD-R media which has already been recorded to (movies I've bought from other people). I've had my HP Media Center PC with Win XP for several months now, and this has not always been a problem for me....This just started several days ago, I think. Did a Google search with keywords relating to my problem and turned up this thread here from last August, which seems to be very similar to the problem I am now having:
My 400C drive CAN read cd's and burn cd's, and will also read factory-made DVD's I've purchased, but DVD-R seems to have become a problem (and I do my own DVD+R/+RW recordings, and haven't had any problems with those, either....I intend to stay with +RW nedia because I seem to have better quality and fewer problems with + media).
Anyway....I followed the directions in that other thread I mentioned above to ensure that DMA is enabled, and it still doesn't help. The DVD-R discs I can't get going.....my drive isn't even recognizing that there's anything in the tray (and neither will programs like PowerDVD, DVD Shrink, etc., recognize there's anything in there), and these DVD-R titles are ones which I HAVE been able to play before in my HP 400C drive before with no problem....until now. I've been able to play these discs in the drive (and I primarily use them on my PC for image capturing, animations, and creating sound files from the DVD's), but now they're not even being recognized by the drive.
Not sure what else to do, or what type of log I need to post (I saw the log the other person posted in that other thread), so I'm at my wit's end at what to do so I can play/use these DVD-R titles in my HP 400C drive.
Please HELP! Let me know what else I need to post here for information that one of the experts can peruse to determine what the problem is I am having.
