Cannot burn movie to DVD-R, but DVD+R is fine?

I'm having a problem burning something to DVD-R.

I downloaded an old StarWars documentary in DVD format (sad, I know!), just downloaded a bunch of Vob & Ifo files etc and burned to DVD using Nero 6 (ie, I tell Nero it's a DVD video and put all the files in the VIDEO_TS directory). I've done this loads of times before and never had a problem.

This one programme though, just refuses to burn the image to DVD-R.

It tells me that it can be burned to DVD+R, DVD+RW or DVD-RW, but not DVD-R for some reason. It asks me to either change the content in some way so that it will burn to DVD-R or to insert a compatable disk. If I put in a DVD+R, it burns to that with no problems.

While this isn't the end of the world (as I have a Pioneer 107 dual format burner and still have some DVD+Rs from my last batch) I'd like to burn all my stuff to the nice Taiyo Yuden DVD-Rs I bought recently.

How do I change the content so that it'll burn to DVD-R? Why is it set not to work on a DVD-R? How is this set and why?
