Odd Avi problem just started happening on my PC

When i try to play Avi's on my pc through media player or Real player i get the sound but the video is now green squares with lots of colours all over the screen.

I dont understand whats wrong as the files that dont work have worked b4 but now they dont just the audio with a green screen.

Can someone please help???
