converting joined file problem

i joined two mpeg files and put them in tmpgenc plus to convert them from pal to ntsc and the resulting video file seems to be stuck in the place where i joined the two files. i used mpeg2vcr to join the files and followed one of the turorials from this site to use the mpeg2vcr program. anybody have any clues as to what happened and hoe to fix it?
FYI: the original joined file plays fine in VLC even at the joining point.

Convert first, then join, then author.

Goldwave.
You can insert some "blank" sound between movies if needed.

is it easy to use? do you have a link to a tutorial? i would appreciate it. ive joined a lot of movies but i have never had to convert to ntsc before authoring, so this is all new to me.
FYI:the joined audio will be one track for one movie.

tell me if there is an easier way to do what i am doing. i obtained an SVCD that was PAL. it was in BIN/CUE format. i extracted the mpeg out of the BIN image using the 'extract but filter only m2f2 frames' option. then like you said in your earlier post i am going to convert them to NTSC using TMPGEnc plus and join the audio with Goldwave(if i can find a tutorial of some sort)and the video with mpeg2vcr. then i will use dvdlab to author the dvd.
is there an easier way to go about this process?

Yes.
Encode each separately.
Transcode audio to AC3 in ffmpeggui, separately.
You now have 2 m2v files, and 2 AC3 files.
Open DVDLab, right click in the project window, add movie.
Put the first half in movie 1, put the second half in movie 2.
On the connections tab, link the end of movie 1 to the beginning of movie 2.
Author your menu's and burn.
No joining, no sync problems.

hey jim i have one more question. sorry i am such a newbie but hey everybody has got to start somewhere.
why do you convert to AC3 before putting the files into dvdlab? doesnt dvdlab take care of all that?
i am greatful for your help!!!

AC3 is DVD spec audio. All players will play it.
Most will also play mp2, and some will play PCM, but not all.
AC3 is also smaller in filesize, thus allowing more bitrate for video, and menus.
You also have a much better shot at the whole thing being in sync afterwards.
You also don't have to wait for dvdlab to Demux all the files, because you're already loading demuxed streams.
When using ffmpeggui, transcode to 224kbps, 48khz.

so when i load mp2's into dvdlab it doesnt convert them to ac3; it just authors the movie with mp2?
What does dvdlab do with the .wav files i get after demuxing with tmpgenc? it converts them to something else doesnt it?

Usually mp2, although the pro version will work with tmpgenc's AC3 plugin to transcode to AC3 (if you have it).
When you demux with tmpgehc, you get mp2, not .wav

i have converted many files using tmpgenc, but this AC3 topic has made me think of a question. when converting an avi with tmpgenc do you demux before tmpgenc so you can then get a higher bit rate in your video?
the way i usually do it is encode the audio the 320cbr with a certain codec(radium fraunhofer) i know im not supposed to talk about stuff like that!

I never use a video encoder to do anything with audio.
Rip audio from the source in virtualdubmod.
Encode ONLY the video stream in whatever encoder you want.
Transcode audio in ffmpeggui.
Load m2v and ac3 into your authoring app (DVDLab for example). Tmpgenc DVD Author can't use AC3, unless you purchase the plugin.
If you transcode your audio first, you know how big it is, so you can then adjust bitrate for video.
