Error Message when I start up DVD X COPY

Can anybody help me here. I taken over my dad's computer since he's passed away and I'm trying to use DVD X COPy and when I launch it I get an error that reads " Could not load your drive information, Please run the drive selector application". Does anybody know what that is and what I need to do??
Secondly Does DVD X COPY version 4.0.3.8 copy DVD's that are protected??
Any help anybody can give me would be greatly appreciated.
