Will Firmware updates fix skippy-ness?

The games will load... And then hang for a while, then skip a lot... VERY slooooowly moving along...

So... I've spent most of this weekend backing up my games... hadn't updated my firmware, cuz I hadn't thought of it.... There are 4 games giving me problems so I didn't know if they needed something extra done before burning them or if it was my burner.... the games are

Samurai Warriors XL
Megaman Anniversary Edition
Warhammer 40K Firewarrior
Ratchet & Clank Up Your Arsenal

But I'm in the process of updating the firmware... Also, I'm usinf Nero 6, if that makes any diff... Thanks for help
