I'm not worried about the disc. I dont want to wear the drive any more than I have to

You won't wear the drive out if you burn at faster speed. I have burned 500 disks on my old burner and it is still alive and well. Burn speed is for quality of your backup not longevity of burner.

The above poster is most likely right. Either the media or the burner you have doesn't support 1x. If you have a + burner, the slowest you can burn is 2.4x.

I have a + burner and keras is correct. It can not go
lower than 2.4x. I am using sony 1-8x DVD+R media.
I am having problems with my backups and lowering the
burning speed is not a soultion for me.
I just read in this forum that burning at higher speed
(8x) is a solution for backups that runs slower than
originals or take long time loading.
I use DVD Decrypter to read and write.

I will appreciate any suggestion.

Thank you.
