Need help getting USB HDD to work on PS2, PLEASE

I have a PS2 (not slimline), an external Hdd (not sony) that has a usb connection, 1 memory card and network adaptor. I used USBextreme to format the drive and load GT3 on it. The PS2 is not chipped but I have the original games. I just want to back up my games on the Hdd and load them from the PS2. 1st question: is it possible ? 2nd: if so, how the hell is this done ? I have searched & searched but I am so confused. Please explain to me like a 3yo as I am new to this. Thanks guys, Ben.

you have to buy the usbextreme disc.
V9 PS2, flip top, SMD, DVDLoader

I don't have it chipped yet and the Hdd is the usb portable type, any ideas ?

yeh what sly was saying. althoguh if you have a chip there is a free version called usb advance.

OK, so I have got usb extreme and formatted a usb hdd and loaded it with a game. Now What ? I tried to plug it into the usb connection at the front of the PS2 but nothing happened when I turned the console on. The hdd has power lights on. Is there something else I need to do or have I done something wrong ?

do you have the usbextreme disc? You need to boot that in your ps2.

No. What do I need for that ? Is it something I can download and burn myself ? I have tried everything I can think of and I don't much more hair to pull out so any help is greatly appriciated.

i think any external hd will work. check usbextreme.com and see if they say anything.
