slow decryption using OEM DVD drive

Hi, I have a IBM Thinkpad laptop with OEM drive (Matshita UJDA755). It takes so long to decrypt a DVD. My desktop drive rips a 8.4GB dvd in usually 20-30 minutes. but the laptop OEM takes about 40-50 minutes. The read speed is so slow .. Any suggestions? upgrading firmware maybe?
