Hey guys, I just bought a gamecube and am looking into modchips. I'm not new to modchips, just gamecube modding.

So far from reading the fourms I have learned that both chips seem good. But I keep hearing that the Qoob is a Viper rip off. Also the new Viper bios has a no-swap option which is what im mainly looking for.

If thats true then what advantages does Qoob have over the Viper other then USB and a larger bios?

I also heard the Viper has a hard time booting full dvds.

Also, if I do the full dvdr mod will I be able to put more then one game on a dvd?

TIA

Apperently, buying games off of ebay would be cheaper then a modchip. Since there are only 4 or 5 good gamecube games.

apparently some people don't care enough about the gamecube to actually look into the games. Do microsoft and/or sony really blind you from the world that much CrashnBrn?

Yes, because all us adult only care about are fighting/murder/sex games. We have no use for good old fashion clean fun. <rolls eyes>.

Might interest you to know that more adults play games like Super Mario Sunshine and Luigi's mansion then kids.

I'm A modder

I like the viper 'cause it's easier to install, but the qoob is just fine.

Extra's of the qoob are Stream fix and MP3player.
but if you intend on just playing games. I recommend you go with the viper-chip

Apperently, buying games off of ebay would be cheaper then a modchip. Since there are only 4 or 5 good gamecube games. it would be a lot cheaper if you just get your Game Cube permod with the chip in side it. i got my GC for $180.00 whice isnt a bad deal cause the GC games i get cost me $3.00 per a dvd of any title. ebay is ok if you willing to spend $30.00 bucks on a used or brand new game just for one... to tell you the truth its not worth it i rather make my own copieds or just buy it from someone..

Huh, that's weird. I always thought playing the bloody games that are loaded with sex made me more of a man, just like what smoking did for me. Does this mean I have to sell my x-box now? ;)

I _only_ use Ritek G05 DVD-R discs, and have never had a problem.

A common misconception -- the GC DVD drive was never designed to read all the way to the outside edge of a full-sized disc. Therefore you are still limited to 1.4GB of data.

The advantage of a full-sized mod/replacement case is that regular DVD-Rs are cheaper and more available than mini DVD-R.

You can still put more than one game on a disc though -- many games are padded with "garbage" data that can be safely removed. I don't know any more info than that, because DVD-R are so cheap it's not worth the trouble for me. If you plan on using mini DVD-R then I would definitely look into multi boot.

You won't be able to just pop in a normal DVD movie and play it, because as I mentioned above, the GC cannot read to the edge of a normal 8cm disc.

However, the Qoob already plays MP3s, and newer versions of Cobra I'm sure will be able to, so it's not inconceivable that they could also play various movie formats.

I don't see DVD playback happening though... it's hard enough to get some movies to fit on a normal DVD5. I can't imagine how crappy they would look having to compress down to 1.4GB

I have a whole thread dedicated to multi-boot. It's working very well now with the bug fix in 1.1

From what I've heard, the qoob still can't play MP3s. They promised it would be able to out the box, but it doesn't.

qoob's also slow updating their bios. I guess it's been quite some. And from what you can remember about cobra, they've been very quick updating their bios in every release except for 1.0 because they were working on no-swap.

http://www.divineo.com/ is good site. I think it's $51 but shipping is $16 for 2 day, or you can pay like $5 but the wait time is 1 - 8 weeks. I just did the 2 day when I got mine.

do you mean like flashing the chip and whatnot? You basically just connect the programmer to the chip, then flash the chip by connecting the cube to your computer. As long as it flashes ok you're good to go. I'm not sure if that's the info you wanted. If you want to know something else just ask me something more specific. Also, check out brakken's faq. There's a link to it on this forum.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, just want to know.

With this Mod chips... Can I just put the game backup (mini DVD-R) in my GameCube and it'll run just fine? I dont need to have the GameCube connected to my computer, or anything else right?

Another thing, Can't I just stick the GameCube games in my Computer DVD drive and copy them? Or do I FTP to the GameCube kinda like Xbox?

Thankx in advance.

Yeah, once the chip is installed correctly you should be able to pop in your backup and play. Of course there's other factors like media compatibility and whatnot, but you can find out more detailed info in brakken's faq as I don't wanna have to repeat a ton of info that's already out there.

As far as copying your games, there's a program called viperrippermulti that let's you put the game in the cube and stream the copy to your computer with a GC bba and a crossover cable. You can also find backups online but I can't tell you where. If you search hard enough you'll find it.

1) Brakken's faq is linked on this forum. Just browse through the thread titles to find it or do a search for it.

2) Don't post your email as it's against the rules.
