I'm probably entering the wrong terminology in the search engine, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

I've gotten the DVD into the VOB, ISO, and BUP stuff, and have burned the whole thing onto a DVD. The DVD plays, but has frequent skips, stutters, and pauses. I'm using a Fujifilm DVD+R, up to 8x write speed, made in Japan (I thought I read somewhere here that Fujifilm and made in Japan were good things to look for in a DVD). Now, I'm trying to figure out where this process is getting mucked up and what I'm doing wrong. I want to try burning the DVD at a low (2x) speed, but I've hit a snag. For some reason, Nero will only give me the options of maximum burn, 8x, and 6x when I have a DVD in the drive.

Does anyone know why those are the only speed options available to me and if it's possible to force a slower burn? Also, is anything else jumping out at you as a potential cause of the problem? I think I'll give a DVD-R a try next to see if that could be part of it, but I just don't understand enough yet to see beyond trial and error. Step one I read was to use good DVDs. I thought I had. Step two was to try slower burn speeds, but I don't know how to burn slower than 6x. Without knowing how, I figure step three is to try a DVD-R.
