Philips DVD+-RW DVD8631 Question

Hi All,

I am totally new to DVD burning. I just bought a Dell Dimension 5000 and it includes a Philips DVD+-RW DVD8631. It is the first time I use it and I am trying to make an exact copy of a DVD (it is just a TV programme burnt onto DVD). The original disc is a DVD-R and the one I bought (the copy) is an Imation DVD+R.

Sonic RecordNow 7.3 was pre-installed on the DELL PC. Before I tried to make the copy, I format the disc just in case... then I insert it in the drive and Sonic copies the original DVD and then prompts me to insert a blank or rewritable disc, when I insert the new disc a message comes up, it says "The type media inserted in the recorded does not match the source media, please choose a compatible and try again".

My question my be very silly, but can I actually copy a DVD-R onto a DVD+R? If so, what is wrong here? I have read your messages about the Philips DVD+-RW DVD8631 and I wonder if that could be the problem?

I have read the website www.dvd-recordable.org but did not find anything related to this.

Please any help will be much appreciated.
