JAK3 - Console wont play originals or backups??

Hi All
I have a strange problem with playing Jak 3 on a box chipped with a DUO2SE Chip. The game will play ok for about 30 mins then i get a disc reading error message, i thought this was maybe the media or the way the game was copied (with nero) i told my son to go back to using the original and it happened again (same message)I thought i would try using an original that my neighbour has and the same thing happened again. The strange thing is that my slimline PS2 using swap magic 3.3 will play the discs (copied and originals) without a problem. Does this game have some sort of detection for mod chips??
