As topic states, how do I go about this, do I use DVD-R/+

Or normal CD-R?

any certain program needed?

.NRG is a Nero-made image so you can burn them with it, but DVD Decrypter can handle them too. Needed disc is depending from original one where image has been taken from, if image size is approx. 700 Mb it is probably a CD image and larger ones are DVD images. Some burning programs will also tell you if you're trying to burn image into wrong kind of disc.
