DVD Burning - a quicker way?

Hiya,

I currently burn DVDs using the following method:

- Decrypt using DVD Decrypter
- Clone DVD using CloneDVD2, which writes DVD files and then copies the actual DVD.

This currently takes me about two hours per disc - half an hour to decrypt, then an hour to write the DVD files using CloneDVD2 and half an hour for the actual burning of the disc.

Is there a quicker way to copy DVDs? Two hours per disc just seems a bit excessive, but this might be standard, not sure as I'm a bit of a newbie to this!

Also, could anyone quickly tell me, in lamen terms, what the difference between DVD-R and DVD+R is?!

- amount of RAM you have
- how much compression is needed when encoding to fit onto a blank
- how much cpu resources available (you might have a lot of things running in the background - firewall, real time anti-virus, etc.)
- whether or not you're using an internal or external hard drive
- processor
- multi-tasking while it's ripping/encoding/burning
- the speed of burning

If you choose to burn it very fast, you might get crappy results such as skipping, pixelation, read errors, etc. You can lower the total amount of time to complete your task if you have more RAM, don't multi-task, have a faster processor, ending some tasks running in the background that are not neccessary...

If you're backing up an DVD-9 movie, you can exepect it to be longer than a DVD-5 movie.

The time is fine. Want to have real fun? Try a CCE encode using DVDRebuilder, figure about 5 to 9 hours depending on the passes you choose. Remember a good result takes time.

Some here can rip 8gig in 6mins & burn in 15, mine will rip 7.5gig in 25mins & burn in 15mins. The rip time is due to their Liteon ROM. ROMs can rip a lot faster than any burner could.
Needless to say my new liteon ROM is winging its' way to my house!
