In this game /w my backup, the cutscenes are broken off. They just stop and the game continues anyway. Does anyone know why (good quality DVDs are being used).

Burn at 2x speed.
Use +r if you can.
Also whats your idea of quality media?

I use verbatim and fujifilm.
Look at the pic below

One of those is your problem.

What could be causing a backup to play the cutscenes too quickly so that they're out of sync with the audio?

rerip and burn very slow. Use good media. What program are you using to burn? I use dvd decryptor. And what method are you using to boot your backup? does the ps2 play movies and other games correctly?

I had similiar problems. My games would skip and stop, and sometimes they would hang up. I was using 4x DVD Media. I then bought Verbatim 16x DVD-r Media and now my problems are completely gone. I burn as 1x.

Did you make a backup of the PAL or NTSC version? See, I'm using Verbatim 4x DVD-R already.
