Following some help in another thread, regarding ripping a couple of minutes form a DVD using DVD Decrypter, can anyone please help me with the following.
I've tried burning the extracted vob file to a DVD (using Ulead DVD Moviefactory)for a quiz night i'm compiling.
i've used Dazzle moviestar5 to create an intro's, questions etc which I then exported as a .mpeg in order to bring into Ulead to burn to the DVD along with the extracted VOB file.
The problem is that Ulead is stating that the DVD extract contains AC-3 audio which needs to be converted before i can import it!!!
Can this be converted without any quality loss? If so how?
Or is there another free DVD burner that will allow me to save the Moviestar 5 MPEG's i've created along with the DVD Decrypter ripped VOB files?
Any help again would be much apprciated.
Damian

hi there
ok, got the pm, now at first i am sort of with you?
ok, so all your files are sorted and just need burning to dvdr? have you tested everyting to work ok? probably not? ok do you have any apps that use a virtual drive? nero! is one. as you can use dvd shrink to output as a ISO which can be burnt by dvd decrypter...
dvd shrink and dvd decrypter are free apps!
but if you have a virtual drive you can load the iso file and in a virtual drive it will play in say powerdvd to see if all works too!
if you need anymore giss a shout, but plaes give as much info as possible!
------------------
edit!
oh sorry second look you have vob and mpegs? i know tmpgenc dvd author will except both but as for the menu working not sure ??? also you may need to buy it?
i must admit i am lost as to what type menu affair you have?? and does it work?
Nothing here to see, move along folks.

hi
not sure if this will all work (your files i mean!)
----------------------------------
as this approach below will!
but use divxtodvd (free) to add multiple vob and mpegs! it will output vob/bup/ifo for burning!
now dvd shrink will except these files and you output as iso! then you can try this iso in a virtual drive for testing (no need for dvdr disc to be wasted!) and if good to go dvd decrypter will burn iso files to dvdr!
ALL 3 APPS FREE !!!
Nothing here to see, move along folks.

WOW - 1st many thanks for coming back on this Rotary.
Sorry about this but I'm a real level 0 begineer here, so if i may i'll try to explain myself again as reading what you put made my head hurt.
What I'm Trying To Do:-
I'm trying to do a Movie observation round for a quiz night, therefore I was looking to take extracts of DVD's to base the questions on.
Rather than just have the movie extracts and then verbally ask the questions i decided i wanted to have the questions appear on the screen AFTER each clip.
I also then fancied having a small intro sequence, such as a film countdown
How Did I Go About It:-
I found creating the questions and intro very easy using the Dazzle Moviefactory 5 and then exported them to mpeg format (in individual files) ready to burn onto a DVD - ALL THIS WORKED OK.
I then posted a thread elsewhere on here and found out that using DVD Shrink to could extract a clip of film without any quality loss. I have viewed these VOB files (located on my HDD) on my PC with no problem - So i believe everything is OK up to this point as well.
I then tried to pull the mpegs and VOB files together and burn the DVD.
I tried using Ulead to do this.
The mpegs were imported with no problem, however (here is my problem)
the VOB files imported virtually all the way only to come up with a message saying it could not finish importing correctly because it contained AC3 audio.
so, basically i then thought i might have the following choices:-
1) Convert VOB files to another type of file in order to import into Ulead so i can create the DVD - the only thing here is i need to keep the VOB quality as the quiz round is all about observation of the clips.
2) Find a free dvd burner that can handle mpegs & vob's with AC3 audio.
What i think you are nowing saying i can use divxtodvd to carry out item 2 above.
Am i right??
I really appreciate your help on this.

ok update time.
I've tried VSODivxToDVD without luck. I think i'm the problem here (feel free to agree).
More help please if you can (i thought this would be a simple quiz round to compile and would make a pleasent change from the norm - HOW WRONG COULD I BE!!)

hi
so what haapened when you put the files in divxtodvd ??
i will have a think i just got back...
------------------------
edit
ok, so these vobs you need LINKED to these mpegs somehow? or slotted inbetween those question for the quiz you made?
from what i can work out? you will need a BACK TO MAIN MENU button on each question part (at the end of each film clip) after it played for veiwing and ALSO the MAIN MAIN MENU must have say 30 link/buttons to go to each question, so you can traverse back and forth ? ideally...
but i spose you could use pause button to save some hassle on menu links?
see i am not sure what setup you got concerning these links / menus / clips??
ummm??????????????
Nothing here to see, move along folks.

i think i might have the wrong prog - i got VSO DivxToDVD.
Anyway it basically created another VOB file at the requested location and as far as i could tell there was no way to force the output to be any other format.
I'm really surprised that this is so hard to do!!

Are there any prog's that i should download, for the MSN session, as i'm better off doing downloading at work today.
Also i'm getting to the point that even if i have to pay retail price for a burner (that you can arrange the order of the files) that can handle mpegs and vob files with AC3 audio,i will (as long as it's not too expensive) - any ideas on that one?

hi
nero visionexpress will do it! not just Nero by the way!
tmpgenc dvd author will load both but need the AC3 plugin to get AC3 out! but i think it will take it in and output another type of sound (which is fine - used it loads!)
windows messenger comes with windows xp etc...no need to download! just make an account...

Hi,
I have MSN i was just wondering if there was any other software that ewould be worth downloading while i'm on ISDN at work (rather than dial-up at home)
I really am surprised that this is turning out so hard to do!!
Do you think that Roxio Media Creator 7.5 would do what i want?

Just a thought but i've downloaded tmpgenc dvd author and it has allowed me to import a DVD shrink ripped .vob file.
If i buy this bit of software i could then get the AC3 decoder which will then mean the sound will work on the imported vob file - Am i correct on this?
however having played with it a bit it appears that the bitrate, when creating a DVD file output is too high - how do i overcome this? do i have to modify every file using Xilisoft before i import it into a DVD burner?
This whole thing is really starting to give me a headache - I can't believe this is so hard!!!

OK i think i've reached the point where either this has got to work today or this quiz round just isn't going to happen. (No disrespect to Rotary as he is certainly game for trying to help a complete newbie but it's all getting a bit heavy going for me)
Is there anyway that someone can give me a step by step guide as to overcoming my problems.
1) I have created an intro to the quiz round using Moviestar - What format should this be saved to my HDD ready for DVD burning. If this is not possible what app should be used to convert it so it can be burnt to DVD and how do you go about it?
2)I'm using DVD Shrink to get extracts of DVD's (about 2-3mins at a time) - How is it best to use DVD Shrink to save to HDD ready for DVD burning. Again if this is not possible what app should be used to convert it so it can be burnt to DVD and how do you go about it?
3) What app should i use to burn the files onto DVD bearing in mind i will need to arrange the various files in a specific order.
All of the above i need to do at the best possible quality.
Anyone please help (no disrespect intended Rotary)
Damain
