I have the Pioneer DVR 105 (its a Cendyne CDI CD 00209 but my pc recognizes it as a Pioneer DVR 105), and bought a 3 pack of
DVD-R Verbatims at Target (all 3 burned fine), plus it came with a dvd-rw that I have re-used a few times again no problems.

However I ordered up 100 dvd-r's called DVDPRO media (.67 cents per disc) white top, purplish bottom, and I even found this same brand on ebay with a compatability chart showing the 105 is compatable, however in Prassi & Nero both it doesn't even recognize the blank disc (just keeps telling me to insert a blank dvd-r).

I did the firmware update to v1.21 thinking that might fix it but nope still not recognized by the 105.

I know verbatims work (at least the ones from Target I bought did) but they were expensive, I was looking for an alternative maybe something under a dollar a piece that works with the Pioneer DVR 105 unit.

Any suggestions? Also anything I might be doing wrong - that my drive won't recognize this dvdpro media (since it says its compatable in other places with the 105).

I bought 25 DVD-RW from Shop4Tech. The Brand is Optodisc. Cost $30. None of the blank disks are recognizable by my Cendyne DVR-105WB (Pioneer DVD-105). Does anyone have a similar experience? Or have a solution. The Pioneer firmware 1.21 in the Pioneer Australia site does not seem to work on my Cendyne either. Any comments will be deeply appreciated!

Can anyone recommend cheap DVD-RW to use with the Pioneer (Cendyne) DVD-105?

The issue isnt so much what will burn ok in the 105. Most cheap DVD-R's appear to work. The real problems come in playing them back in other machines later. I've tried over 10 makes in the 105 - 9/10 burn ok, but playback in my Panasonic DMR-E30 is very unreliable. Some play, some give U11 error, some crackle, some get stuck half way through, and just very occasionaly, one or two play all the way (if its a full moon and theres no witness).

I'd like to know how well various DVD-R play back.

Yes..listen guys, after u burn stuff, even if u succesfully burn it, test them in ur standalone dvd players....i bet many people who just burn them on cheap media, immediatley assume the picture does not freeze up, and store the dvd-r's away not knowing they have been scammed.

I bought a 50 pack of DVD-RW off this guy on ebay at .99 each and they work great in my Cendyne DVR-105. I'll attach a link to his latest auction on Ebay. Also I bought some 1x Princo off Pricewatch.com, pack of 100 DVD-R's and 50 double cases cost a total of 87.00. All and all a pretty good deal all around. All of the media work great but are only 1x, which sucks, but I have more time then money so it works for me.

Most I burn will play on something, but not many on everything.
Have loaned DVDs to mates, only to find they lock up 1/2 way through.
There is no easy answer - Just (1), play the DVD on your standaloNE, (2) check each title will play, (3) check search at 8x and 16x dont lock-up, and finally, and most important of all (4) check you can play the end of the movie.

I'm using DVD-Pro(GradeA) media with my Pioneer A-05 .78 each with no problems at all. I made more than 130+ movies backup with and I didn't find a player that can't play them, so they offer great compatibility. I think your problem it's Prassi. When I tried Prassi It doesn't even recognized my burner. You should try RecordNowMax I think It's the best burning sofware out there. D'ont use Nero because it gave me some compatibility issues. I didn't make any coasters with RecordNowMax. You know, you need to choose the software that works the best for your burner.

But they are no more .70 on Meritline Nicer. My first 200 pack batch was .70 but they rise their price to .78. I also buy from Meritline.

Folks,
I wrote to Cendyne about my situation with DVD-105. Here is their recommendation for Pioneer drivers and media to use:

Dear Sir,

I had some bad experience with media. None of the Memorex dvd-r worked. The dvdXcopy v1.31 software went through copying without a hitch, but the resulting dvds does not play anywhere (PC nor tabletop). However, all the Memorex dvd-rw worked perfectly. I also tried the Optodisc brand of dvd-rw media bought from shop4tech.com, but the Cendyne DVD drive does not recognize any of the 25 I got. The one dvd-r that came with the drive does not work either.

Do you have any recommendations for:
* drivers
* brand of dvd-rw
* brand of dvd-r

Thank you very for your assistance!!

Sincerely,
Peter.

You can go to http://forum.firmware-flash.com/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=25 to download the latest firmware update for your drive. Brands of media that we recommend are Pioneer, Ritek, TDK, and Verbatim.

Guys,

From now on, could we specify what brand name and whether it is DVD-RW or DVD-R??? These two animals are different.
