Hi guys.

I have seen some Hyundai dvd-r or dvd+r with cases at £9.99 for 50. The advertised media code is TYG02, which I believe is Taiyo yuden.

Is there anyway to tell if these are real or fake without buying them.

I know £9.99 isn't a lot, but if all I end up with is coasters then I may as well take my tenner to the pub :))

Do Taiyo Yuden have certain authorised manufacturers to anyones knowledge? Damn, I didnt even know Hyundai made DVD media heh.

Any opinions would be cool, before I either order or go to the pub ;)

Cheers Guys.

those hyundais are DEFINITELY FAKE...go to the pub~ RUN RUN RUN...don't waste your money on that crap. i would link you to the lengthy discussion of the KNOWN fake TY media out there, but, im short on time and just a little lazy right now. do yourself a favor, if it sounds too good to be true, it USUALLY is.

i've had the misfortune of running into a 25pk of FAKE TY's that coded out as TYGO2s as well, they very inconsistent and when running media tests, they have errors all over the place, massive spikes and inconsistent burns. i didn't pay for mine, a friend of mine gave me the pack, but, nevertheless, still very poor media, i wouldn't be surprised if my fakes were hyundai brand either. they had no distinguishable markings on the spindle and for most GENUINE TY media...you should look for GG00000 or GD00000 markings inscribed on the hub. those are the REAL DEAL, all the media without such codes are FAKE. hope that helps.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I must admit, £9.99 would be way to cheap for decent media I guess.

I did do a forum search and saw a few posts about the same media code and some bad things. I also did a web search and found people who had success but at higher price, which led me to think they would be fakes.

Oh well, pub it is, I'll find some better media later hehe.

Cheers.

@na

i think a lot of our friends over in Europe WISH they could buy from supermediastore here in U.S.

if i am reading his original post correctly, i believe he's in Europe where supermediastore is not a viable option for him. correct me if i am wrong DMW, but i know for a fact from other friends on AD that live in Europe always have to pay a high premium for TY media in Europe (authentic ones that is). :)

Hi, yes your right mate I'm in England.

I do see a lot of cheaper prices in other countries and so I try and find the bargains over here too, but usually the really cheap stuff is just that...really cheap!!!!

The amount of dodgy media I have had is quite shocking, I'm just trying to find the perfect balance of the right price and decent quality.

As for those Hyundi things....I took your advice and had a beer haha.

Cheers.

W..O..W!!

I know you get what you pay for, but that price is crazy!!!
I'd want a solid gold tub to keep them in!!

I might give svp a go next time I order £39 isn't bad for quality discs IMO, I don't need printable anyway...got no printer lol.

Cheers

It's funny that this question was asked, because I myself bought some TY's, and am looking for ways to verify their authenticity.

https://www.blankmedia.ca/proddetail3.asp?id=303

That's the link from the store I bought them. I found the GG00000 code but wanted to know if there are any other caracteristics. I used DVD identifier and:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:TYG02]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] - [DVD-R]
Manufacturer Name : [Taiyo Yuden Co. Ltd.]
Manufacturer ID : [TYG02]
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4,489.3MB = 4.38GB (4.71GB)]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ DVD Identifier - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The top is shiny silver W/O any text or graphics and the bottom is purple. Are they REAL? I paid 34 dollars CDN for 50.

On an unrelated note, how do I check for PI errors? I have 2 nec drives.

Regards,
