how can u change the video mode on a dvd-r when u record ...xp , sp , lp , ep ...?

Well...I would think if you have a stand-alone DVD Recorder it should have a setting somewhere to change that. If you are burning with a PC based burner then that is a bit different. What are you using?

That is not really an option on a PC based burner. You see those settings you refer to are used to indicate the amount of compression that is applied to a set of video files recorded with a DVD-Recorder. This allows the fitting of many episodes on to a disc, using a multisession technique.

In PC based recording, the video files are generally gathered together as a compilation on the machines's hard drive then the minimum compression required to fit them all on is applied. Multisession is not generally used.

The SP, LP, EP modes are determined by time on the DVD. If it's a one-hour program on a single-layer DVD, it's DVD-quality (the best). Two-hours is SP, 6 hours is ext. LP. I'm not sure exactly, but it's printed on the DVD jacket covers that come in the case.
