DVD works on computer but not dvd player

it works perfectly fine on my computer , but on my dvd player it can read it , all the menus work perfectly but when i play the movie the movie doesnt come up and all you can see is the main menu frozen (the dvd player hasnt crashed or anything)

- the backup and burning software used
- the type and brand of media
- the manufacturer of the set top player

hm..i used Nero , Maxell discs and a Sony dvd player

1. It may caused by your disc, CE player is not recognizing your disc.

2. It may due to high compression rate. Some CE player can not play a high compressed DVD.

Please try to play this burnt disc with some other CE DVD player.

hm...i think its because of my author.i used dvd-lab pro , then i used Tmpegenc author and it worked. But i want subtitles and the only thing i know of is dvd-lab pro to get subs but my dvd player wont play it though...hm..any suggestions for subs?

Sorry, I can't comment because subtitles are the first thing I remove to reduce compression.

Regarding the playability issue, you can always eliminate the media as the culprit by duping your backup onto a high grade DVD R that you know is compatible with your standalone. Sony seems the obvious choice.
