xbox 2 belkin modem/router???????

I've just got a Belkin ADSL modem with built-in wireless router, model F5D7630 and with it ive got the Belkin wireless G USB network adapter. The PC is using the wireless USB bit and works fine, well worth the money. My trouble is the xbox. Ive got a ethernet cable going to the router part of my Belkin, the cable is fine cos i use it 2 link 2 my sons xbox in his bedroom and play halo. when i link 2 xbox live it clears the cables, clears the ISP bit but gets stuck on the DNS server section. Here is what it tells me:
The DNS servers could not be reached.
check these possible options:
- If your xbox console is connected directly to your modem, verify the DNS server settings match the settings provided by your ISP.
- If your xbox is connected to a router, verify the DNS servers settings are set to automatic.

Well this Belkin is all in 1 so do i check both and if so how do i check both. I did ipconfig/all and used DNS from there in the DNS settings box on the xbox but still nothing.
I'm really really stuck now, I dont understand pc jargon and i need things in really plan english to understand what to do. please some1 must be able to help me, please :-(
