Canopus DVCR HSYNC detection problem?

I recently got a Canopus DVCR-50, and have been converting my old VHS home-movie tapes to DVD (and DivX CD). I have had no functional problem until I put this one tape in.

When playing back the captured file, the left-hand side of the frame seems "wavy", and where the start of the horizontal line moves towards the center of the display (only about 2% indent), the chroma for that line is off, and the colors are distorted.

The "waves" seem stable as you go down the display, so I guess it's some kind of 60Hz noise. (The camera was on battery when the tape was made).

The same thing happens whether I use the S-Video in or the composite.

When I play back the tape to the TV, there's no indentation, it displays perfectly on the TV. So, I thought I could take the TV out from one VCR and connect it to the TV-in to the second VCR, then use the first VCR as a "stabilizer" for the second, use the second to ouptut the S-Video or composite to the Canopus.

No luck. Still have the waves.
When I capture the tape using my ATI All-In-Wonder card, there's no waves, it's perfect.

And it's just this one tape (so far). Any ideas?
