One of my friends(the moron) has softmodded his xbox using the gamesave exploit and then proceded to install unleash x then apparently (accidentally) installed the microsoft dashboard over it

well it is well and truly screwed as far as i am aware so i was thinking of replacing the hard drive with a new one however i was wondering if i could get all the files from another(working) xbox using ftp transfer them to another harddrive and just install it

i'm hoping its that simple but things rarely are so i woudl like any feedback on problems or issues i should look out for (or advice if you have any)

thanks a lot

Why don't they just do the gamesave exploit again and this time load UnleashX?

because they have gotten to a point where it will boot up and then immediatly bring up the customer support screen with a 21 error which (i've heard) is very hard to pin down so rather than do that i was wondering if it woudl be easier to start afresh with a new hard drive

that would take more time than just doing the exploit again wouldnt it..

it would yes but what i'm saying is that it wont boot games or any dashboards save for this error message so i cant use the exploit again

step 1) open your xbox
step 2) unplug the power cable from your dvd drive
step 3) turn xbox on get error screen
step 4 unplug the ide cable from the hdd and plug it into your computer (keep the xbox and hdd powered so it will be unlocked)
step 5) boot your xbhdm and go to xbrowser
step 6) put the files you deleted back on and turn the computer and xbox off
step six plug the dvd drive and hdd back in and boot xbox, it should boot correctly if you put the correct files on.
