Hello Afterdawn Gurus,
I have a problem with Nero's InCD -- it seemingly does not load and therefore doesn't function. Of course, we're only talking about CD-RWs or DVD-RWs. The problem exists on three independent hard drives (of two different computers). All drives have Windows XP Pro, SP2 installed. When I now insert (it worked previously) a CD-RW or DVD-RW into the drive (a LITEON CD-DVD burner, Model SHOW-1633S, or on the second machine, a SONY DRU-510A or a PLEXTOR PX-W1210A), the CD or DVD is shown as closed, i.e., the media can only be read, it cannot be written onto or modified.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software numerous times, with different versions (an OEM-supplied version, a Nero 6 Ultra, retail version, and of course, the latest version on the Nero web site, 4.3.11.1). All versions exhibit the same problem and do not work.
In my research to date, some postings suggest there is a "packet writing" problem with Windows XP, SP2. Indeed, both Nero and Microsoft discuss the packet writing issue on their sites. However, I'm not so sure that this is the problem because it seems that it may have worked for me with SP2 installed. However, having uninstalled and reinstalled so many times, on all three hard drives, I'm no longer sure under what circumstances it worked. I only know that I have 3 or 4 very recent CDs/DVDs that I've written to, with at least 30 percent space remaining, and now they're all shown as closed. Using Windows Explorer, I cannot copy to or write to the disk.
Note also that this problem is confined to InCD... the Nero burning function works fine.
I'm sure this is a common problem with many users of WinXP SP2 affected. Maybe someone in our forum has the "silver bullet."
Thanks and regards,
g
