MPEG-2 too quiet

Extracted a subplot of 8 scenes from a movie with DVD Shrink.
Merge scenes and transitions to single mpeg-2 with Nero vision Express.
Problem is the soundtrack volume of the final clip is too quiet.
Even worse, because NVE freezes if I try doing more than one join per render, I have to merge the scenes in 7 operations with deteriation in volume each time :-/
Can anyone suggest a solution that will boost the sound in an mpeg?
