Hello
I've burnt 100's of dvd's with complete success, but lately a dark ring will show up on the disk at different locations, and the dvd will freeze when you play it, when it gets to that point.
I have a plextor 712A burner, i use Ridata 8x dvd-r media.
Not every burn does this, but i would say every fifth or so.
Is it bad media, or is my burner slowly dying. It is only 10 months old, and has burnt @ 250 dvd's

Are you burning those Ridatas at top speed?

That brings up a good question ? About how long or how many burns do you get out of a decent dvd burner ??

You get a hell of a lot more out of it if you have a seperate dvd drive to read and one to burn. I had over 600 dvd burns and well over 1000 cd burns with my first burner. I only replaced it and my dvd rom because I couldn't pass up the price of the 16x dual layer burner I saw. I ended up buying 2. A buddy of mine is still using my old drives without problems. He's had them for close to a year now.

Pony's right, try 4x or even 2.4x. Your media and/or your burner may have issues with high speed burning.
