I have spent hours on various forums tryng to compile the various fixes (and their efficacy) offered against the laser burning issue on modded pstwo V12(and unmodded it seems). I have found:
* diode fix
* vandruden fix
* summ0ne fix
* slim fix (v1 to v4)
* Neo-Fix Xii (from neoasic.com)
* Neo-Fix Plus

It appears that the problem occurs across all chips (Matrix, DMS, etc...) even so some claims that the Magic is less prone to it (hard to verify claim).
The diode fix seems completely useless, the vandruden seems out of date.
The summ0ne fix, even so a "passive" fix, is widely used by many modders but most of them cannot explain why they use it and not another one. I suspect because it is easy and cheap.
The slimfix uses the matrix team concept using a pic to stop the CD/DVD controller during mechacon crashes. It would appear that this fix cannot protect against all mechacon crashes and that the summ0ne might be "statistically" more effective.
The Neo-Fix seems to use a combination of the slim fix and the passive fixes. The plus version is their latest. On paper it looks like it is the most comprehensive one but I could not find a lot of people with it so it is impossible to verify.

I could not find modders selling premods with the Neo-Fix.

Bottom Line: I still do not know if it is worth modding a V12 Pstwo.
Any more information/experience about the above-mentioned will be greatly appreciated.

With a v12 PStwo I suggest only swap magic.

I know a chip is better but it wont kill the machine.

all mod chips on all systems cause extra stress to the system components you solder them to. a v12 is good but not good enough to handle extra stress.

I been seeing the SlimFix quite a bit lately on pre-mod systems and some say the V13 is improved as to not need the Slimfix.

Any Ideas...

Break down of fixes needed.

V9/10 - romeo mod
V12 - summ0ne or comsoft v4 fix
V13 - no fix needed

Fair enough, thanks for info Xmodds, .........does anyone know what would be the difference between the SlimFix V.4 and the SlimFix V.3 ??

If one was to install a SlimFix on a V13 console for extra protection.....do you see any harm like cct conflict ?

The only reason I ask is that I too have heard the V13 was improved with an additional protection cct of it's own. I have also heard that if the console gets hung the laser coils may still suffer damage.

I have just started out with the console mod stuff but have been working in this type of "stuff" for years.
Noticed the more I look around and ask questions about some very specific modifications sometimes the people selling do not seem to have much information of the product like an install pic.

For example ....the SlimFix.....some have it as a V.3 and some as a V.4.........just the other day I notified a site that their install pic link for the V.3 SlimFix did not work. Actually they were quite fast on fixing it and emailed me back to let me know it was fixed and that the SlimFix was indeed a V.4. I went and had a look.....the link worked fine and they even went one better the pic is there as soon as you click on the SlimFix.

I did also notice however that the description never changed a bit they just changed the title to read SlimFix V.4. Also noticed they forgot to change the premod units listing as they come with a SlimFix V.3 .......curious..hmmm

Diff between v3 and v4 slimfix
V.4 has built in Blue LED which shows you that the fix is working properly, also has less wires to solder.

Hey thanks man.........have not seen a .V3 install pic...any idea where I can find one.....the site I was refering to was mod chip world and they only have that .V4 pic....have asked others but no luck so far anyway.....it's a holiday here so maybe tomorrow. I have an Infinity Matrix on it's way (tomorrow hopefully) the guy sent me a SlimFix but never said what version so I'm trying to get geared when it comes in I will be ready to get out the soldering iron.

I know I have had good advice on not even to worry / bother about the extra laser protect on my V13 Slim but if I get a SlimFix comming too might as well put it in........but on the other hand why bother.......

Again...thanks for info, helping this newbie out !
