I am trying to author dvd's from AVI files that use the XviD codec. I used to use Sonic MyDVD to author dvd's from other types of video clips. When I try importing an XviD AVI, MyDVD says that decoder is missing. The files play fine on my computer in media player so I assume I must have the correct codec. I used Video Inspector to check the file to see what codec it required and it said the XviD codec and that it wasn't installed on my computer. I don't understand how this could be since the videos played though. Anyway, I installed the XviD codec and now I still can't import the video clips into MyDVD. In the help files it says that if the codec is installed and you still get the error, then MyDVD does not support the file type. However, I've read reviews stating that MyDVD supports XviD. Does anyone know how I can get XviD's into MyDVD or know of any other stand alone DVD authoring software that does? When I say stand alone, I mean that I don't want to use one program to convert all of the videos to MPEG (such as TmpgEnc), then use another to author. I would like to be able to drag the videos directly into the authoring software. And I also am not looking for a program that just converts the AVI to DVD files without menues (like WinAvi). It doesn't have to be free. I would be willing to purchase something if I new it would do what I'm looking for. I just don't want to get new software only to find out it doesn't support XviD either.
