I'm just starting to have problems with my burner after 2 years. First is the RecordNow Software, it will hang when burned till 100%, and the drive letter disappears, or it will eject the dvd+R discs after burning halfway saying there's a problem burning to the discs. And now HP DLA, the drive light will blink, like the light will off for a few seconds and on again. Normally when burning DVDs in Recordnow, or HP DLA, the DVD light should on always and not blink during the burn process.

I'm always using Verbatim DVD+R which is 1-4x write speed media to burn my data onto the dvd+r. I always burn data onto the dvd, not making it into a dvd but just like a data disc.

Not sure what is really the problem now.

I know that I have the latest firmware for HP DVD Writer 200i installed which is version 1.72, but I forgot how to check for the flmware installed on my pc? How do I check out its version number?
V1.72 lets the dvd use 8x dvd+r/rw media but not burn at 8x speed because the dvd hardware can only burn at 2.4 x speed max.

I'm using Winxp Home Edition.
