DVD player not playing CD's

I have a dell laptop PC that has a Toshiba DVD player installed. The DVD player plays DVD's but it won't read CD's either data or music. Can anyone help??

r these cds burned or pressed? did u buy them from a store or did u or someone burn them?

I have tried a number of Cd's, burned by me, burned by others, factory CD's, cleaning head CD's, even a XP reinstall CD from Microsoft, it can't read any of them.
