As i mentioned in the topic, my ps2 is dying.

The laser seems to have gotten bad and there are serious lag/glitching when i play my ps2 games, which is really frustrating during FMV's or games where there is alot of music.

This really frustrates me, i just thought it could be a bad burn or something, but then i re-tried with original games and some of my older backups, the same issue.

Now i dont really intend to invest in a new ps2, my wallet cant really afford the suffering. Then i really started thinking about it this morning, and it hit me.
"What about those hard drive things ive read about...".
I mean, since the games play via the HD they wont suffer as much lag or glitching(or at least less then my glitchy laser

So ive been browing this forum spending nearly 3 hours reading the topics over and over and over and over *gah*.
Its gotten me insanely tired.

From what i understand you need the following:
A ps2
A Network Adapter for the ps2(Orig.)
An HD
A copy of HDloader/HDA (HD Loader seems to be more popular...)

Now i understand from a few tutorials and posts how to install it.
But my problem isnt the install, its the part of getting the games inside the HD.
There seems to be an option to insert the actual ps2 game and let the HD software download into the disk, this option is unavailable for me because my laser is bad and im pretty sure that i would get bad data on the rips.

And then i stumbled upon this WinHip software. That lets you drag and drop the games of your choice to the HD and later on insert into the ps2 again.
Now this is probably the most suited for me, but its a real hassle.
And i was wondering, could you do this with an USB 2.0 Enclosure?
Just take the HD out of the ps2, bump the HD into the enclosure, connect the enclosure to the PC, send the files, disconnect the closure, insert the HD to the ps2.

Has anyone tried this option?

Ps. I have a modchip installed on my ps2, which i forgot to mention

Ok...

I bought a network adapter, a compatible HD and i got a copy of HDloader(Patched).

I installed the HD, started the ps2, inserted the Hdloader CD.

A window came up asking for a format, so i clicked on Continue, and now it seems to be stuck...

How long is the format supposed to take?

Pay $30 and get a legit copy of HDAdvance. It won't hang up unless you have a DOA HD.

Big Will - 39001 PS2 (NTSC), HD Advance 2.0, Seagate Barracuda 300GB and v.2 Xbox 360 ... sweet, baby!

ok there are several things you need to realize that if you games are sticking and jerking then when you copy the game to the hard drive it will do the same thing again because it is reading the damaged file off of the disk here is what you may want to consider doing remove the top to your ps2 then remove the top off of the cd drive clean the rails that the cd laser lens travels on and loob them up with some electronic greese doesn't conduct electricity then clean your laser lens off

but!!!

if you have the older model ps2 model #scph 30001 to scph 40001 the hard drive isn't compatible and you may experance hard drive failer or worse fry you ps2 i have nuked 20 ps2's just buy adding a hard drive

Hmmph, i already fixed it before anyone replied :S

The thing was that i was using a 28bit HDL, and i think i packed the games in the sections that it couldnt read(the ones above 120GB), so i just patched it with the latest release and it worked.

Thx anyways
