hey guys im new here and I read all the stickies but its to hard to understand so im just gonna ask

I have a movie DVD that I bought and i want to make another back up copy.

the thing is that the original DVD is like 3-4 Gigs and the cds i have can only handle up to 700 MB and 80 mins.

My question is what is a good program that is free and lets me burn another copy?
Also into a file that can be played in Windows Media Player.

Thanks

the dvd backup guides won't work, you'll have to use the dvd to vcd/svcd guides to get it to fit to a cdr

ah ok
yeah i was talking to one of my friends and they said i need a DVD-R cd
I was thinking of just buying a blank cd and copying to it..
Is it just the same as making any regular cd? or do i also have to do some other special tricks to it?

Thanks Flip

no, your going to have to compress and re-encode it.

just out of curiosity, why dvd to cd? DVD burners are really affordable. You can buy a NEC3540 for like $50. Doing a DVD9 to a DVD5 the quality will be much much better.

And for you, your original is only 3-4 GB so no need for compression. It's a simple rip and burn to a dvd blank.

Just to get this out of the way now ... don't account for the 120minutes and 4.7 is more like 4.36GB of burnable area.

And yes to burn a dvd you need a dvd burner. to burn a cd you need at least a cd burner. Like a DVD Rom will not burn anything.

For what your doing (a DVD5 ... less than 4.36GB) you can just use DVD Decrypter. Rip in ISO mode and then burn the ISO.

For anything larger than 4.36GB you'll need to compress it then burn it.
