I have philips 642 and when burning dvd's i sometimes get movies that are choppy and lag( like when you watch satellite tv and thunder storm ruins the hour) i get colored abnormalities and skipping sounds. Some movies are ok but some divx's and vcd's dont work.. can anyone tell me what's happening??

thanx

brazzmunk,
Welcome to the forum. Usually when it is choppy and lags that is a sign of inexpensive blank media you used when the movie was recorded. If you are copying the movies try a better grade of blank media like Verbatim or Taiyo Yudens

yeah but some movies play just fine, and all the dvd's i "backed up" work great too. I thought it could be some encoding problem or bitrate is too high?

brazzmunk,
If you do not think it is the media then what program do you use to burn the DVD? The problem might be that your conversion program from .AVI to DVD-Compliant mpeg-2 or to Mpeg-1. There is a program you can try: VSODivxtoDVD (free)

brazzmunk,
You probably need to move this thread to that forum ( Mpeg-1 and Mpeg-2 encoding)
Usually when I am doing an .AVI file to DVD I use Premiere or Scenarist and have no problems w/ the encoding. First of all the forum needs to find out what programs you used and sometimes how you used the program

Sounds like we might be missing the necessary codecs for audio. I have no idea why. What program are you playing it in? You might go here and see if these codecs help:

Try posting in the Divx section and see if somone there can figure out why no audio. In theory if you have video and audio before you encode you should have audio after. This program does not split the streams. The answer is probably very simple and it is sitting in front of our noses
