My friend recently brought me his Xbox, explaining that while overseas he accidentally plugged it into a 220 plug and fried it. I explained that it only should have fried the power supply and i would replace it, and he also requested i put a modchip in it and an aftermarket hard drive. None of that is too much of a problem for me i have done a number of mods for my friends. So i purchased a replacement power supply from RichsPsxParts.com and it came promptly. I installed it and tested it, and it worked just fine. The Xbox did not appear to have any other type of damage after careful inspection. I continued to install an xbit 1.5 modchip via Pogopin, and an aftermarket hard disk, and installed an Evox dashboard using the Slayers 2.6 auto-installer. As i had hooked it up to FTP and began transferring saved games and such it just turned off by itself randomly, i turned it back on and it did it again. I checked out all the connections and reconnected everything and made sure the wiring was servicable, then tried it again. It just keeps turning itself off at random times. It wont stay on for more than 10 minutes, and once it shuts off if you turn it back on it will then shut off within a minute or two everytime unless you wait a while before trying. What on Earth could this be? What else could have been damaged on the board by a power surge? What exactly is causing this? And is there any way i can repair this?

I got a little more input on it, It might be the replacement power supply or simply the Transformer ON the power supply overheating and shutting off. This would explain why once it shuts off and you try to turn it back then it shuts off almost immediately unless you let it cool down first. The brand name of the power supply is "Longtime" If anyone has any thoughts on this or any information to prove or disprove any of these theories i would greatly appreciatte it. I also have another of the same power supply so later i will try to replace it again and see if the problem is only on the one power supply.

Well i tried installing the other power supply to see if it was simply a problem with the first replacement, and the second power supply also has this problem. So now im stuck. Please if anyone has any input post.

I doubt its the chip itself, because i have the temperature of the CPU, GPU, and HDD all monitored on the dashboard and those are all below 100F when it crashes. Which only leaves the PSU.

Yes im in the Special Ops, Yes im a geek too. When Worlds Collide @_@
