I plan on buying some dual-layer discs to burn games that are on dual-layered discs. I heard Swap Magic cannot load dual layered games. Is this true? If so, do u lose video quality if u burn on a single layered disc? What software is out there that is good for this type of project? Any comments encouraged and appreciated

True, Swap Magic cannot play Dual-Layered games.
Even with Toxic's new DVD9 patcher, it still isn't quite a possibility, but who knows, things may change in the future. Basically, there are two ways that games are downsized so that they can fit on DVD5.

1.) A few DVD9 games have GARBAGE or DUMMY files that simply take up space. You usually extract from the ISO, and replace the dummy files with empty dummy files to cut down, and have it fit onto DVD5.

2.) It's possible that you could take the movies, music and sound files from a DVD9, and downsize them, or replace them with empty dummy files. Downsampling is a serious hassle, and for that purpose, most people just RIP the movies out. This is how some games can be fitted from a DVD to a CD.

However, certain games are not so easy. Some have protections, and some can only work in their original format. Gran Turismo 4 is the most popular of these. And recently, there have been some major breakthroughs. GT4 is, as of very recently, able to play off of a hard drive and also able to play off a DVD9 for systems with modchips. All of this is done with or without the use of the Toxic OS/BIOS and a DMS4 chip.

For Swap Magic users, the only solutions that work are to get the games on DVD5. Until either the Swap Magic makers fix this, or there's some kind of loader/hack that can work through CD/DVDLoader for SMD, there's no other way to play it.

As for rebuilding games and downsizing them, search the forums, there are plenty of detailed guides that can help you with this.
