I want to buy a mod chip to backup my games. but the thing is i heard that in order for u to play the backed up game u need the original version rt there with u. i usually take my ps2 to my friends house and we play all day not to mention we usually leave the cds lying around and i dont want to scratch them. Do i need to have the original version in my bsck pack in order to play the backup ones?

PS2 games are actually pressed DVD/CD discs, they are not burned. PS2 games use the Burst Cutting Area (BCA) of the disc to identify themselves to the PS2 unit. The BCA is not part of a disc that you can burn on, it is only replicated on pressed discs.

So, the only way to play backups is to get boot-discs or a mod-chip.

No. That would defy the purpose of making a backup.

You need an Original Ps2 game to create a backup.
But thats all you need the original for.

my advice is to do some research b4 just going out and buying an expensive modchip. i use swap magic and a flip top and love it. some people say its a hassle, but i sent 25 bucks on the whole set up as compared to god knows what u will spend on a modchip and getting it installed. also u get ur swap magic in a couple days. i mean like 2 or 3 usually. in the end its ur call, but i went through the same obsession of what is better, and very happy with my choice.
